Michael Wardian, 38, Arlington, Virginia
Wardian started running and competing in triathlons in 1996 after finishing his lacrosse career at Michigan State University, where he played attack for the Division I team.
Michael's first marathon in 1996 was the Marine Corps Marathon and Wardian qualified for the Boston Marathon with a time of 3:08 and has since completed more than 150 marathons, 60+ Ultra Marathons on three (3) continents, 20 triathlons, including Iron Man Lake Placid, and one (1) adventure race.
Michael is a three (3) time United States of America Olympic Trails Qualifier in 2004, 2008, 2012 and has a personal best marathon time of 2:17:49 set in 2011 at the Grandma's Marathon.
Michael is a five (5) time member of Team USA for the 100K World Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and has lead the team most years that he was a member with his best finish ever in 2011 for a Silver Medal for the USA and lead the team to the first ever Team Gold Medal for the USA Men (in the 26 years that the USA has been competing).
Michael is a two (2) time member of Team USA for the 50K World Championships in 2009, 2010, and both years, Michael was the Bronze medalist for the USA.
Michael was the 3rd place finisher at the Badwater Ultra Marathon (135 Miles in Death Valley, CA in July with average temps at 121 degrees) in 2011.
Michael has won multiple USATF National Championships: 50 Miles (Road-2011), 50K (Road- 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), 100K (2008), 50 Mile (Trails-2008).
Michael was the highest USA finisher ever on the Men's side at the "Marathon Des Sables" (150 Mile Stage race across the Sahara Desert) in 2010 with a 3rd place finish.
Michael has been selected USATF Ultrarunner of the year in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and was name the International Association of Ultrarunners 2010 Ultrarunner of the year for 2010.
Michael has won multiple major big city marathons such as the: Rock & Roll National Marathon (Washington, DC), Delaware Marathon, San Francisco Marathon, Harford Marathon, Kauai Marathon, Delaware Marathon, Mount Desert Island Marathon, Mercedes Marathon (Birmingham, AL).
Michael has also set multiple Guinness World Records for: Fastest Marathon pushing a Pram, Fastest Marathon as a super Hero and currently has the Indoor World Record for fastest indoor Marathon (2:27:21)
Michael has a beautiful wife, Jennifer and two (2) young sons, Pierce (5 years old) & Grant (3 years old).
Michael also works full time as an International Ship Broker for Potomac Maritime, LLC in Washington, DC, near where he grew up in Oakton, VA.
