How It Works

Race Format
Each participant will be assigned to a 6 person heat. Heats are scheduled every 15 minutes throughout the event. The first heat begins at 8:00am and the final heat start time will be determined based on the number of teams that register. The race is organized into three segments: swimming, biking and running.

Participants will swim for 10 minutes, bike for 20 minutes and run for 15 minutes, totaling 45 minutes of actual race time. Transition time between activities varies from 10 minutes between the swim and bike to 5 minutes between the bike and run events. Since the UW-L Tri Challenge isn't a traditionally timed event, transition time doesn't count against a participants' overall score.

Scoring
Each score will be reported to the racer after completion of each segment. After all participants have completed the race, the total distance traveled will be calculated by adding the scores for all three events.

Calculating Distance
SWIM- Number of laps accurate to 0.5 laps (25 yard pool).
BIKE- Miles cycled odometer reading accurate to 1/100 of a mile.
RUN- Distance run on the track accurate to 50 meters.

Prizes
The top 3 overall male and female participants and the top 3 male and female participants in each age category will win medals.

Age Groups: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+

Award winners will be posted online and emailed to pick up their prize at the Recreational Eagle Center on the UW-L campus.

T-Shirts
Registered participants will receive a long-sleeve dri-fit shirt.

Race Day

Start Time
Start time will be emailed to you on the Thursday before the race. The earliest heat will begin at 8:00am and the latest heat will end by 8:00pm.

Check-In
It is recommended that you arrive 30 minutes before your start time in order to check-in and prepare yourself for the event. The check-in table will be located in the Mitchell Hall lobby area.
