About the program

This co-ed program is for adults of all ages and abilities who have the desire and the willingness to participate in a structured, group-focused training program. The program will train you to run 26.2 miles continuously (this is not a walk/run program). In addition to completing the marathon, the program may offer to some participants the benefits of improved cardiovascular fitness, reduced adverse health factors, safe training methods, and the camaraderie of like-minded running partners.

The program can be used to train for the Marine Corps Marathon, Baltimore Marathon, and other fall marathons. You must register for these races on your own; some marathons may have already closed registration.

Prerequisites

  • Running at least one year
  • Mileage at least 12-15 miles per week for last month
  • Able to run continuously at least 6 miles
  • [*]Run an average of 3 days per week

    Group training runs

  • Sunday long runs, 7:00 AM (6:00 AM summer), Greenbelt and Bowie, MD
  • Tuesday track workout, 6:30 PM, College Park, MD

    Program requirements

    1. Participants are required to volunteer for at least one PGRC event during the training program.
    2. Attendance is required at the Sunday sessions. It is expected that each participant will keep absences to a minimum and make up the missed workouts on their own.
    3. Participants who cannot make the Tuesday track sessions will be expected to complete the workout on their own.
    4. Participants will sign a liability waiver and medical release and agree to abide by Program rules.
    5. MP-3 players and other musical devices are prohibited for safety considerations.
    6. Financial - participants should be prepared to find and pay for their own marathon (and other practice races), and purchase appropriate running attire (including running shoes and clothing) and a running watch that can keep at least 30 splits.
    7. Each participant must carry replacement fluids, wear a fuel belt, or use a hydration system like a Camelbak. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

    Fee

    $100 (In addition, all registrants must be members of the Prince Georges Running Club. If you are not already a member, you may join when you register for the program.)

    Note-The training fee does NOT include your race registration. You must register for all races on your own. Please be aware that these races may fill up ahead of time.

    PGRC reserves the right to refuse to coach anyone who the coaches believe could be injured in the training program or who does not meet the minimum training requirements.
