About The Event

Join us for the third annual Trinity Bikes R.A.T. (Redmond Area Triathlon) Race on Saturday, August 13, 2011.

The Trinity Bikes Rat Race is an exciting multi-sport event showcasing the unique landscape of Redmond, Oregon. This is a pool-based sprint triathlon (with an optional duathlon) that is centered around Redmond's Cascade Swim Center. The race consists of a 500 meter swim, a 12 mile bike ride and a 5k run. Both individual and team competitors are welcome. The duathlon portion of the race will consist of the ride then run format. New for 2011 is a 5k, 10k and Kid's Race.

The proceeds from this volunteer organized event will benefit Redmond Area Parks and Recreation Department (www.raprd.org) and First Story (www.firststory.org).

Course

Swim - The R.A.T. Race will begin at the Cascade Swim Center. The swim requires completion of 20 lengths of the 25 meter lap pool. Your estimated 500 meter swim time is needed to determine your race heat and assign your start time.

Bike - The 12 mile bike course begins and ends at the Cascade Swim Center parking lot. The course will have a nice variation in scenery and elevation changes. The circuit leads bikers along the outskirts of our city on newly paved county roads and back through the residential areas of Redmond to the pool. Ride on the right side of the road and pass to the left. Drafting, defined as being within 3 bike lengths of the rider in front of you, is not allowed. Flaggers and volunteers will be at intersections along the race course, but ALL RACERS must obey traffic laws. This course is not closed!

Run - Competitors will head down into Redmond's famed Dry Canyon to begin their 5k run along a peaceful paved pathway though the heart of Redmond. This will be a down and back leg with completion taking place around the Redmond High School track just west of the pool.

NEW FOR 2011 is our 5k and 10k race. The 5k race will follow the same course as the triathlon/duathlon. The 10k will feature some trail running as the course weaves through the dry canyon.

Race Day

There will be a mandatory competitors meeting outside the Cascade Swim Center at 7:00AM. The first swim heat will start at 7:30AM. Packet pick-ups will be Friday August 12th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and Saturday August 13th 6:00AM - 7:00AM. Competitors will be provided with race numbers for the bike and the run, as well as access tags for competitor parking and the transition area. You will also receive a timing chip. The race provides a secure transition area in which only event staff and competitors will be allowed entrance. Please plan to bring your bike and race gear to the transition area on race day with plenty of time to make your swim heat. Security will be provided in the transition area from 6:00AM to 12:00PM on race day. All bikes must be picked up by noon.

Chip Timing

This is a chip timed event. Participants must wear their assigned chip during the event. It is important that each team member wear THEIR chip so the time is associated with the correct race segment. Participants are responsible for returning their timing chip at the finish or be charged a $30 chip replacement fee.

Awards Party

Awards will be presented to the top male and female individual finishers in all races. We will also award the top finishers in each of the individual male and female age categories. These categories include 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over. There are no age categories for relay teams. Random prize drawings will occur in which all competitors and volunteers will be entered.

** A delicious post-race food service is available for an additional $5.00 per person.

Volunteers

The R.A.T. is volunteered powered! Many volunteers are needed to make the event a success. Every volunteer receives an event T-shirt and will be entered in the random prize drawings. Please contact Eric at Trinity Bikes by phone or email @ 541-923-5650 or info@trinitybikes.com.
