Run for Shelter 5K

Run for Shelter is a certified 5K road race and family carnival that benefits Transitions Global, an international non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the lives of girls who have been victims of sex trafficking. The race is open to runners and walkers of all abilities.

Transitioning victims from slavery is a process, not an event. Transitions Global provides comprehensive aftercare services to girls between the ages of 13-19 years old who have been sexually trafficked, exploited, or abused. This is accomplished through a continuum of care consisting of psychological, social, educational, and health services, as well as, job training and placement, keeping the individual girl's needs and desires at the forefront.

Race begins at 9:00 a.m.

The USATF sanctioned 5K route will start in front of the Oakley Senior and Recreation Center and finish near the ball field next to the Center. The route winds around the outer loop of the Oakley Playground before entering the road onto Paxton Ave. near the tennis fields. Continue to a right turn onto Marburg. Right on Wasson. Right onto Paxton and enter Playground outer trail again, past the Oakley Recreation Center and pick up inner loop trail around ball field to finish near left field.

Free parking is available near the Oakley Recreation Center in The Hyde Park Plaza located at 3882 Paxton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45209.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 overall male and female finishers. All kids will receive an award.

Entry for the 5k run and walk is $20 prior to April 14 at 11:59 p.m. Registration for the Kids' Fun Run is $10. All registrants will receive a cotton t-shirt. Kids participants will also receive an award for participating.

All mail-in entries must be postmarked by Monday, April 11, 2011. Mail-in entries may be sent to the following address, with checks made payable to Transitions Global: Run for Shelter 5k, PO Box 58343, Cincinnati, OH 45258.

Race-day registration is available for $25 for the 5k and $10 for the Kids' Fun Run at the Oakley Recreation Center, beginning at 7:30 a.m. A t-shirt is included, but sizes may be limited on race day.

Get ready for some fun! Run for Shelter is more than just a road race. It's a family-friendly event, complete with carnival games that are sure to satisfy kids of all ages. Plus, the little ones can participate in the Kids' Fun Run. All the kids earn a prize!

* Family Field Games. Sack races, hula hoops and prizes, oh my! No registration required. Prizes include gift certificates from Dewey's Pizza and UDF.
* Carnival Games. Come one, come all! Try your hand at classic carnival games for all ages.
