Myrtle Beach/Halfmax Volunteer Opportunities

Site Setup/Cleanup - Assist in unloading and transporting equipment at the race site. Help set up equipment (tables, chairs, barricade/fencing, garbage cans, bike racks, etc.) in various locations at the race site (finish line, transition area, and so on). Can also assist in cleanup once the race is over - hauling equipment back to trailers, loading trailers, tearing down the site.

* Thursday, September 1, 2010: 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
* Friday, October 1, 2010: 6:00 am - 11:00 pm
* Saturday, October 2, 2010: 3:00 am - Everything is cleaned up!


Body Marking - Monitor entrance and exit doorways to transition and assist in body marking athletes with their race numbers.

* Saturday, October 2, 2010: Arrive at 5:00 am; Stay through 7:30 am


Transition Area - Monitor entrance and exit doorways to ensure only registered athletes enter the transition area before the race begins and during the race. Check helmets and bike number placements upon entry. Help athletes find where they need to rack their bikes, place gear, etc. Keep non-participants out.

* Saturday, October 2, 2010: Arrive at 5:00 am; Stay through entire race


Bike Course - Responsible for directing cyclists, protecting them from traffic at intersections and alerting them to course changes and obstacles. Law enforcement will be placed and helping to monitor major intersections and roads. Keep spectators off the course and remove any debris in the road near their area. If a cyclist goes down, direct other cyclists away from the accident and bike course patrol and medical assistance should be contacted immediately. Must have a cell phone.

* Saturday, October 2, 2010: Arrive at 7:00 am; Stay until the last biker is through your station (approx. 1:30 pm)


Run Course - Responsible for directing and cheering on the runners and protecting them from traffic and spectators. Remove all debris and obstacles from their assigned area. If a runner falls, direct other runners away from the accident and contact run course patrol and medical assistance immediately. Must have a cell phone.

* Saturday, October 2, 2010: 10:00 am; Stay until last runner is through your station (approx. 4:30 pm)


Aid Stations - Cheer on the athletes as they distribute water, HEED, gels, fruit, cookies, etc. on the run course. Will need to help keep station stocked with enough water, gels and other supplies as the race goes on (with the help of the run course coordinators). Responsible for clean up of cups and other trash at their respective stations during and after the event.

* Saturday, October 2, 2010: 10:00 am; Stay until last runner is through your station (approx. 4:30 pm).


Finish Line - May help and work on setting up and organizing the finish line area before and at the beginning of the race. Responsible for collecting chips from athletes' ankles when they are finished. Distribute finisher medals, water, towels, sponges, etc. to the athletes after they cross the finish line.

* Saturday, October 2, 2010: 10:30 am; Stay until the last athlete has crossed the finish line (approx. 5:00 pm).


Post Race - Direct athletes to post race food tents, help with distribution of awards, results, beverages, etc.

* Saturday, October 2, 2010: 9:00 am; Stay until the last athlete has finished the race.


Parking Attendant - Parking Attendants will direct athletes and spectators to appropriate parking lots and areas.
