Jessi's Fight for Sight 5k Walk/Run

The Sander family has been active in our community for many years. You may know Jessi & her family through your neighborhood, school, a sports team, or St. Timothy's Church. If not, here's a very brief overview of her courageous story…
At 19 months, Jessi was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF) Type 1-a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow along various nerves. Since then, she has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to remove tumors from both her brain and leg. As the result of a tumor growing on her optic nerves, Jessi has lost all sight in her right eye and has greatly reduced vision in her left eye. In January 2010, Jessi began one final round of chemotherapy as a last hope of retaining the little sight she has left. Everyone who knows Jessi agrees that she is an amazing young lady who rarely complains about anything. Her family has faith that Jessi will lead a wonderful life with or without sight, yet they also know that she will forever battle a range of NF issues.
