About Abe's Army |
What is Abe's Army?
Abe's Army is a 12 week training group designed to train new runners and walkers to complete Abe's Amble - Springfield's premier 10K road race, held on the final day of the Illinois State Fair, August 23rd, 2009. Abe's Army participants are divided into groups of 10-12 based on similar fitness levels and led by two or more Platoon Leaders per group.
Who can join?
Abe's Army welcomes walkers and runners of all abilities. Children under the age of 16 are welcome to join, however, they must be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian and will be assigned to the same group. Please consult your family physician before undertaking any new exercise routine.
What group will I be in?
You'll be assigned to a group within either the Privates Platoon (for new athletes) or the Corporals Platoon (for more experienced runners). Walkers and Race Walkers will be assigned groups accordingly.

When/Where |
Abe's Army meets on Monday evenings at 5:45 p.m. from June 1st, 2009 until August 17th, 2009.
Walkers, Race Walkers, and Privates meet at Lincoln Park's picnic shelter.
Corporals will be meeting at the Commodities Pavilion at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Orientation Meetings and Important Dates |
Packet pickup and Introduction to Abe's Army will be held Thursday, May 28th, 6:30-7:45 pm, at the Dove Conference Center in the Prairie Heart Institute, 7th and Mason. All Privates, Corporals, and Leaders should plan to attend this important meeting.

Additional Information |
All Abe's Army participants should wear shoes geared for running, moisture wicking socks, shorts, sports bras, and shirts (cotton is not recommended for summer running).
