Aquarium Run

The Oklahoma Aquarium Run set for May 16th, 2009 promotes physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle while raising funds for Aquarium educational programs and exhibits. The event features a half-marathon, 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Plus a post-race cook-out on McGraw Beach, a kids zone and free race-day Aquarium admission for registered runners and walkers!

6:30 AM: Race day registration (add $5 to pre-registration fees)
7:30 AM: Half marathon and 5k start
8:00 AM: 1 mile fun run/walk (untimed)

Race packets will be available for pickup beginning Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Fleet Feet Sports in Tulsa (61st and Yale). Packets can be picked up Wednesday from 10 am to 7 pm, Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm or Friday from 10 am to 7 pm at Fleet Feet. Packets can also be picked up on race day at the Aquarium beginning at 6:30 am.

In-person registration will be available at Fleet Feet beginning on Monday, May 11, 2009.

A free Aquarium Run T-shirt will be provided to all participants with the exception of 1-mile fun run registrants who are 12 and under (a shirt can be purchased for an additional $5.00). All registered run and walk participants receive free race day admission to the Aquarium.

Awards to overall and age group (top 3 per category) and team awards for most participants in the Corporate and School Challenge categories. A commemorative medal will be awarded to all participants finishing the 1/2 Marathon. Awards will be given out at the post-race party to be held at the McGraw Beach.

The 5K, and 1/2 Marathon will start on Aquarium Drive, on the Northwest side of the parking lot. The 1-Mile Fun/Run Walk will start at the sidewalk in front of the Main Entrance to the Aquarium.

Parking is available at the Aquarium parking lot.

From I-44/Riverside: Before 6:00 AM*, take Riverside Drive south to 96th Street. Turn right onto 96th Street and right again at the 9th Street Light. Make another right onto Aquarium Drive and proceed to the Oklahoma Aquarium Entrance.

From the Creek Turnpike: Take the Peoria/Elm exit, turn north, go one block to Aquarium Drive (101st), and turn right. Take Aquarium Drive east to the river and you will drive right to the Oklahoma Aquarium Entrance.

From Highway 75: Before 6:00 AM*, take the Jenks Main Street exit and go east all the way through town and almost to the river to the 9th Street light, turn left onto 9th Street. Turn right at Aquarium Drive and drive under the bridge to the Oklahoma Aquarium Entrance.

*Jenks police will direct traffic around blocked streets after 6:00 AM.

The goal of the Aquarium Run is to raise money to benefit the Oklahoma Aquarium's educational programs and innovative exhibits while promoting a healthy lifestyle for families. The Oklahoma Aquarium raises environmental awareness and encourages people of all ages to preserve and protect our planet and its inhabitants. This year's run will be followed by a special awards ceremony and party at McGraw Beach on the Aquarium grounds. As an added bonus, all registered walkers and runners will receive free Aquarium admission on race day. The tour includes the new Ozark Stream Exhibit, featuring river otters, beavers and raccoons.

The Aquarium Run will be timed (except the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk) using the IPCIO timing system. All runners must wear a tag to receive a finish time. Please pick up your tag on race day at the tag pick-up table located at start line. Tags must be returned after the event in the finish chute. A fee of $35 will be charged to the participant for all non-returned or lost tags.
