Who is Wish Lemons?

Wish is a retired Methodist pastor and former radio broadcaster. Wish started running 47 years ago as a way to give up smoking and get in better shape. Today, at 91, he is a legend for his years of participation in virtually every competitive run or walk in the Greater Tulsa area. The Tulsa World dubbed Wish "a fixture on the local running circuit" and listed him as a runner to look for in the Tulsa Run. Wish's personal mission is to "get us moving!" His wife, Wanda, joins Wish in the running lifestyle. Together, their lives are about Faith, Family, Country, Healthy Lifestyles and Relationships. When the Builders Class of First Methodist was looking for a way to raise money for missions, they decided to honor their retired pastor and friend, Wish Lemons, by naming this race for him. Wish's name is Welsh for "wise and hardy." Wish says, "...to use my name to encourage people to run makes me so proud I don't know what to do."

Who sponsors the Wish Lemons run?

The Builders Class of the First United Methodist Church in Tulsa organizes and sponsors the run. In addition, the 2009 race has corporate and individual sponsors who provide financing, goods, services, time, and effort to put on the race. These sponsors are listed on the registration form.

How is the money from the race used?

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the race are used to fund community projects and foreign missions projects. Some of the previous recipients are Eugene Field School, Salvation Army, Habitat For Humanity, Meals On Wheels, Little Light House, Young Life, Brush Creek Youth Ranch, Restore Hope Ministries, Mentor Moms, Real Impact Missions, New York City Fireman's Fund, aid to homeless, aid to families of mentally ill, youth missions, medical/dental/construction/sports/educational missions to other countries.
