The Runner's Edge Trail Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile trail run on the trails of the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, Illinois.
Registration will be limited to 750 runners. Sign up early. This race has closed early since 2000.
Course |
The best half marathon in Chicago starts and finishes in the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, Illinois. Runners will head south from the Old School Preserve on the 13.1- mile, shaded, groomed and rolling Lake County Forest Preserve trails along the Des Plaines River. The 13.1-mile TAC- certified course is an out-and-back course through the Old School Preserve and Wright Woods. The trail is narrow at certain points and runners must be courteous to other trail users and aware of changing terrain and conditions at all times. The trail is not closed for the race.
Course will be open for 2.5 hours.
Age Divisions |
Male and Female: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+.
Awards |
Overall male and female winners receive awards and running shoes. The first three male and female finishers in each age division also receive awards.
Chip Timing |
This year's race will be chip timed. Racers that own their own chip need to include their chip number on the registration form. Chips will be picked up race day, please allow more time than normal before the start to pick up your chip and place it on your shoe. You must have your race number to pick up you chip. Please make an effort to pick up your packets before Monday to expedite race day pickup.
Water / Aid Stations |
Water and energy drink will be available at the start/finish and six other points. Medical attention will be available at the start/finish.
Directions |
The race is situated in the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, IL.
From the north or south take the Tri-State Tollway (I-94) to Route 60 and go west. Take Route 60 to St. Mary’s Road, proceed north to the Old School Preserve entrance.
Or use Rt.176 east or west to St. Mary’s Rd. South to the Old School Preserve entrance.
Parking |
Parking is available only in designated lots at the Old School Forest Preserve. Vehicles parked outside designated areas will be towed at the owners’ expense. Parking fills near Shelter D early. Please leave enough time to return to your car and get back to the start line.
Preferred parking will be offered on a first come basis. Limited spaces for those runners who car pool to the race with 2 or more runners in the car. Show your race numbers on the dash.
Packet Pick-Up |
Packet pick-up will be available at both Runner’s Edge locations on:
Friday, September 1, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 2, 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
No Sunday race bag pick-up is available.
Race Day Pick-up
Monday, Sept. 4, 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.

Party and Raffle Prize Giveaway |
Every runner and their family is invited to the best post-race party in Chicago held in The Tap Room of Flatlander’s Restaurant and Brewery in Lincolnshire, IL. (Rt.45 and Milwaukee Ave.) If you haven’t stopped in and stayed for the huge raffle prize giveaway and the awards ceremony everyone else knows what you are missing and are happy to eat more. The party starts at 11:00 am. Runner’s are free with their race number and there is a nominal charge for family or friends. We would say we missed you at the party but we are all having too much fun to notice you weren’t there.
Don’t forget a change of clothes for the party!
