About the Event |
The Race 4 Jase was started in 2012 as an effort to raise funds for Galactosemia Research and a treatment for children like Jase. Jase was born with Classic Galactosemia, a rare, genetic, metabolic disorder that affects an individual's ability to metabolize galactose, the main ingredient in all milk sugar. The human body also produces galactose, which does harm to a person with Galactosemia's body. Currently, there is no medication and no cure for Galactosemia. All the funds raised from Race 4 Jase will go to support research for the disease.
Today, Jase is a happy 7 year old who will be starting second grade in the fall. Jase's biggest struggles from his Galactosemia are speech apraxia, learning disabilities and a low growth hormone. Jase loves to play sports, play outside and ride his motorcycle. He loves all things dairy-free and is so thankful for your support of his battle and improving his quality of life through Galactosemia research. From all the Dershem Family, THANK YOU!
