Join us for our first annual Lizzy’s Walk of Faith 5K Walk/Run! At age 10, Lizzy bravely finished her battle to bone cancer. Lizzy's passion for her purpose of faith, generosity and compassion kept her strong throughout her journey with cancer. On September 15th, at Twin Lakes Park, we will come together to honor Lizzy and other families that have courageously battled childhood cancer. Lizzy’s race, as well as others, ended too soon due to needing a cure for Osteosarcoma. All proceeds of Lizzy’s run/walk will be going towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
In November of 2016, our family entered a world in which we didn’t know existed when our daughter, Lizzy, was diagnosed with cancer. It’s a world where 40,000 children undergo cancer treatment each year. The average age at diagnosis is six years old and one in five kids will die. It’s the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the U.S. Lizzy lived in this world and wanted to help do whatever she could to help find a cure that she so desperately needed herself. The treatment Lizzy was given is the same treatment that has been used to treat Osteosarcoma for over 30 years. When this treatment does not work in an Osteosarcoma patient, their chances of survival grow very small. Lizzy was treated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and loved everyone there. We have dedicated all the funds from this race to go to St. Jude in hopes of one day finding a cure for kids like Lizzy. St. Jude is the leading Children’s Research Hospital for Pediatric Cancer. Consistent with the vision of their founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
We know this walk/run would mean so much to Lizzy and we want other families fighting childhood cancer to come and be a part of this special day to raise money towards a wonderful cause.
