The very first Olympic Marathon Trials were held in 1968 in Alamosa, Colorado hosted by Adams State College (now University). Many of the greats in the running world - Frank Shorter, Billy Mills, Amby Burfoot, Hal Higdon and many more - are coming back for the 50 year Olympic Marathon Celebration July 27th & 28th, 2018. This is your opportunity to run or walk the course used for the first Olympic Marathon Trails. You will start and finish in the same exact locations as 1968! The race will be an 8k (4.96 miles). The first marathon trials was a five loop course; you will race one of those loops similar to the original course used.
Directions To The Race
On the campus of Adams State University. Race start will begin on 1st Street heading West. The starting line is adjacent to the McDaniel Hall parking lot. The finish line is at the 1968 Olympic Marathon Trials Monument located adjacent to the Rex Field parking lot.
On Adams State University campus and along city streets.
The course follows one similar loop of the original Olympic Marathon Trials course. It is very flat, at 7,544 ft, and mostly on paved city streets. The main reason the Olympic Marathon Trials were hosted in Alamosa, CO in 1968 was because the altitude is almost identical to Mexico City where the Olympic Games were held at that time.
