Mission Statement |
The Digestive Health Foundation is dedicated to supporting the groundbreaking work being done at the Digestive Health Center of Northwestern Medicine. Partners for Achalasia Cure & Education (P.A.C.E.) is a DHF affiliate whose fundraising focus is on the achalasia research being done at Northwestern Medicine by Dr. John Pandolfino. Achalasia is an autoimmune disease that causes nerve damage in the muscles of the esophagus, effectively blocking food and liquids from entering the stomach.
Dr. Pandolfino and his research team are working tirelessly to find a cure, as the number of children being diagnosed with achalasia is growing at an alarming rate. Their groundbreaking work has already improved diagnosis and treatment, but a cure is desperately needed. This progressive disease is incurable and, for some, treatment may eventually require removal of the esophagus.
P.A.C.E. was founded by Kristin Earney, whose son suffers from this rare, misunderstood disease. Drew Kennedy (age 17) was first diagnosed with achalasia at age 14 by doctors at Children's Health in Dallas. He was referred to by his pediatric gastroenterologist to Northwestern Medicine in Chicago because of their exceptional treatment of achalasia. Although Drew has received exceptional treatment from Dr. Pandolfino, his family is looking forward to the day he is cured.
All donations are tax-deductible and proceeds will directly benefit Northwestern Medicine's search for an achalasia cure. We will be grateful for any support you can provide to help P.A.C.E.'s first-ever fundraiser be a huge success. Learn more at www.pacepartner.org
