About Ron |
Ron Kornblut was an avid sportsman and a dedicated Cleveland sports fan. In high school, he was All-Conference in soccer and wrestling -- both in the same year. Ron stayed active by playing softball in two leagues prior to his illness. In 1994, at age 28, he was diagnosed with an in-operable brain tumor. He fought valiantly, but passed away three years later.
In 1996, Ron's parents began the first golf outing to raise money for the Seidman Cancer Center (formerly known as Ireland Cancer Center) at University Hospitals, where Ron was receiving treatment. Ron was present at the first outing. Too weak to play himself, but with his wry sense of humor intact, Ron joked that it was great to have a golf outing in his honor, but "I'd rather be the one golfing." This has become an annual event and it is now dedicated in his memory. Since 1986, the RKMF has raised over $250,000 in Ron's name.
