Mason City native, Ben Newell enjoyed many passions in his life; his dog Jethro, attending country music concerts, Hawkeye football games, volunteering, fishing, boating, and working in the insurance industry, but by far, Ben enjoyed playing sports and being active, he was even training for his first mini-triathalon last fall. Ben's life was cut short at the age of 24, as a result of a brief illness.

The Ben Newell Memorial 5K is a tribute, by Ben's many friends and family, to his passion for running and sports and his desire to always give. Ben's philosophy on life is summed up by one of his favorite quotes:

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." -Winston Churchill

Check in at 8:00 am. Race starts at 9:00 am.

All proceeds will go to the Ben Newell Memorial Fund which benefits the North Liberty Food Pantry, Iowa City Animal Shelter, and Habitat for Humanity North Central Iowa.
