In addition to our annual 5K Run/Walk, we've also added ... a biking component, and a kids fun run & bike, add some family-friendly "Hunger Games" in the form of lawn games/competitions, and add some raffles!

Are you torn between registering your younger child for the 1K Kids Fun Run/Bike or registering yourself for the 5K Run/Walk or 15K Bike?

You can do BOTH!

After you have completed your online registration, simply email jennifer@siouxlandfoodbank.org and let us know that your 1K Kids Fun Run/Bike participant will be participating in our kid-friendly "Hunger Games" (lawn games) while you participate in the Run/Walk/Bike.

If your child is not old enough to participate in the 1K, then please place them in a stroller or your bike's child seat and take him/her on the journey with you!

All proceeds from the 7th Annual "Leader of the Pack" Hunger Games Edition will benefit the Food Bank of Siouxland's BackPack Program: Food for Kids.

The Food Bank of Siouxland launched the BackPack Program: Food for Kids in October of 2006 to alleviate the hunger of students over the weekends, when they do not have the school-based breakfast and lunch programs to sustain them.

The program started with four local elementary schools and will reach students in seven local schools this fall. The schools are chosen for their extraordinarily high rate of students participating in the Free and Reduced Meal Program. We use this information as an indicator that there are a large number of families in these schools that need our help.

Chronically hungry children cannot learn and grow as they should, so our work to help them will have a far-reaching, significant impact.

The Food Bank of Siouxland, with the help of many volunteers, will be assembling around 2,400 sacks of shelf-stable, kid-friendly, and nutritional foods each week. Food costs alone are well over $100,000. Money raised during this event will go directly to the BackPack Program: Food for Kids to help secure the food and supplies needed to make sure that no child goes to bed hungry.
