About the Event

The Tunnels Ten Mile Race is a new race to Buena Vista for the 2016 racing season. It is a unique and picturesque route that begins approximately 9 miles north of Buena Vista near the Antero Pump Station. The route follows the Arkansas River for the majority of the race and runners will run on a gravel road, which used to be the Midland Railroad Grade until it was abandoned in May of 1922. The old railroad tunnels still remain and athletes will run through the series of tunnels between miles 6 and 7. This is a net downhill race with an elevation loss of approximately 683'. There is a section of about 2 miles of the race that is on pavement and 1 mile on dirt trail. A 5k race will also start at the tunnels and finish at the location of the 10 mile race finish area in front of Oxygen Hog endurance apparel & accessories (113 N Railroad). Special awards will be given to the top 3 men and women in each age group following the completion of the 5k race and the 10 mile race. There will be water and gatorade available at miles 2.5, 5 and 7.5 in the Tunnels Ten Mile race and there will be no aid stations in the 5k race.

Directions to the Race

At the only stoplight in Buena Vista, Highway 24 and Main Street, turn east toward Downtown on East Main Street. After crossing the railroad tracks, turn left/north on Railroad. Oxygen Hog headquarters and parking is available all along this block, as well as to the south along Railroad from Main Street. Some areas may be blocked to make room for the race finish area.

Parking

Parking is available along Railroad north and south of Main Street and along East Main Street.
