WHAT IS "Thanksgiving in July"?
Thanksgiving in July is a communitywide food drive that provides food assistance to the hungry. All funds from the Turkey Trot will benefit NLCP and local families. Thanksgiving in July was created more than fifteen years ago by Mercy Iowa City (Chef Ron Hall) and Hawkeye Foodservice Distribution in Tiffin. The six tons of food and funds collect- ed the first year went to a local organization. Since then the food drive has continued to develop and expand. The 2015 food drive includes food pantries throughout Johnson County as well as other areas in Iowa.
More About NLCP
NLCP started in 1985 in a closet of the North Liberty First United Methodist Church. The Pantry provides services and receives support from the entire community. The Pantry averages more than 725 visits per month and distributed more than 288,000 pounds of food and toiletries in 2014. The Pantry also distributed more than 10,000 pieces of clothing.
Donations of food and toiletries are always appreciated. Donations of all types of children's clothing (in season) as well as adult outwear can be made to the pantry. New socks and underwear can be donated and are distributed during special events twice a year at the pantry.
