About the event... |
Beginning in 2013, the Riverfront YMCA Red Flannel Run will be held in memory of Luke Altmix Simmons. Luke was an adventure-seeking athlete. In 2007, while on a trail run in Colorado, Luke was struck by a bolt of lightening that ended his life.
Since then, Luke's family and friends have held events in his honor-the most recent of which is the Wellmark YMCA Red Flannel Run. The run will be rebranded as the wellmark YMCA Red Flannel Run in Memory of Luke Altmix Simmons.

Start at Wellmark YMCA, 501 Grand Ave. One loop out and back on mostly flat, concrete-surfaced streets.
Finish at the Wellmark YMCA. Post-race activities to be held at the Wellmark YMCA.
Schedule
7:30 - 8:30 AM: Race day registration, packet pick-up
9:00 AM: 5-mile run
9:00 AM: 3-mile walk/run
A post-race meal will be served at the Wellmark YMCA immediately following the run. The meal is free to all participants.

3 Mile Run:
Special award to 1st and 2nd place male and female in each age division as follows: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & Older. Awards mailed after race.
Overall Award - Best time for both male and female. Awards received on Race Day!
5 Mile Run:
Special award to 1st and 2nd, place male and female in each age division as follows: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & Older. Awards mailed after race.

Red Flannel Contest |
All runners and walkers are encouraged to wear a costume. "Celebrity" judges will determine the winners. Those wanting to be part of the contest should stop by the judge's station before the race starts. An awards ceremony will follow the race at the WellmarkYMCA and contest prizes will be given out.
Awards:
Penguin Award - Best dressed participant in red flannel
Icy Cupid Award - Best dress couple in Valentine's Day apparel
Iditarod Award - Traveled the furthest distance to participate and dressed in red flannel (maximum of 2 prizes awarded)
Igloo Award - Largest number of participants from one family racing together and dressed in red flannel (prizes limited)
Frosty Cubicle Award - Best dressed co-workers in red flannel (5-person max)
Sled Dog Award - Best dressed dog in red flannel

Post-Race Meal |
A meal will be served at the Riverfront YMCA immediately following the run. The meal is FREE to all participants.
