About the Event |
Want to get some exercise and celebrate the river that runs through us? Come out for the 2nd Annual White River Festival Walk and Fun Run, an easy non-competitive 3-mile walk or fun run to support efforts to promote and protect the river that sustains life across 16 counties in Central Indiana.
All ages and abilities are welcome, and there are registration options for teams, individuals, and families. (And see our special features for pooches below!) This event is part of the White River Festival Community Fun Day, so come early for a free pedal boat ride on the canal and stop over after for art and science activities, face painting, tours of the river bank, and sports demos on the lawn. There is an entry fee for the Walk and Fun Run but all other Community Fun Day events are free and fun for the entire family! Bring your lunch or purchase a lunch and picnic by the river!
About the White River Festival:
This event is part of the White River Festival, a two-week series of events that draws attention to the White River and the important roles it plays in Central Indiana. A project of the White River Alliance, the Festival runs September 1-14 and features a variety of events for the entire family. In 2014, the Festival celebrates the theme of recreation with paddles and hikes, art exhibits and performances, family science activities, river clean-ups, tours, bird walks, and more! For more info and to sign up to receive updates, see www.whiteriverfestival.org.

New for Dogs! |
Got a pooch? You and your dog play an important role in keeping our rivers and lakes clean. The White River Alliance's Pet Poo, It all Piles Up! efforts encourage dog owners to pick up their pet's waste. More poo picked up is less pollution in our rivers and lakes!
Sign up with your pooch to promote pollution prevention and receive these special incentives:
a Clean Water Superhero bandana for your pooch, a pet poo bag dispenser, and the opportunity to have a complimentary portrait taken with your dog by Indy Humane Society photographer, Lise Greil. Optional Clean Water Superhero costumes will be on hand!
Want to be a Clean Water Superhero? |
Fundraise for clean water by creating your own personal fundraising page!
You or your pet can be the captain of an individual or team effort and invite all your friends and family to support you in promoting clean water. Visit the White River Festival Walk and Fun Run First Giving page for details. All proceeds go toward the Alliance's work to promote and protect the White River.
Special Prizes (as of midnight on Sept 5th) will be awarded in these categories:
* The Top 3 Best Fundraising Teams led by a Canine
* The Best Fundraising Individual
* The Best Fundraising Team of any Composition
* Any team captain of a team that raises $250 or more
Fundraising not for you? Then be a Clean Water Superhero by rallying friends, family and co-workers to walk as a team. All members of teams must register as individuals and then you may create or join a team on page 2 of the registration process. All team captains of 10 or more (people or pooches!) will receive a gift.
New route heads south! |
We are excited to offer walkers and runners a taste of the newly opened southbound extension of the White River Greenway! After crossing the Old Washington Street Bridge, the route heads south, taking in a long stretch of open, sunny trail along the river followed by a lush shady stretch before turning around at the route's water stop. Following the same path back, the return trip offers a striking view of the City skyline. For the curious walker/runner, info signs along the course will offer tidbits about the area's bridges, industrial and natural features, and the important infrastructure that impacts our river. Note that this course is suitable for all ages and abilities. You do not need to complete all three miles - turn around at any point suitable!
