8th Annual Remembrance Run/Walk

Open the Memorial Day Weekend with this family event on Friday May 25, 2018 at the Siouxland Freedom Park in South Sioux City, NE. The opening ceremony will begin at 5:45 p.m. with closing ceremonies at 10:00 p.m. at the Siouxland Freedom Park Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Start Memorial Day weekend right and with the family
This is a family friendly environment and the event has something for all ages! Fun is encouraged. The 2018 event will be held at the Siouxland Freedom Park. There will be courses marked to help keep track of individual and team mileage.

What about the "run/walk part"?
Break a sweat- or don't. Participants may come and go at any time and run or walk as long as they like; length of time or distance is determined by the individual. You may participate individually or as members of a team. If you do not have a team- please ask us, we will find you one. Potential team

Serious runners, casual walkers, individuals, families, children of all ages, or groups of friends. The point is to have fun with friends and family while honoring our military!

What and where is the Siouxland Freedom Park?
The Siouxland Freedom Park is located on 55 acres of land along the Missouri River in South Sioux City, Nebraska between Foundry Rd. and Riverview Dr.

The park includes the John Douangdara Memorial War Dog Park, which opened in 2012. The Vietnam Memorial Wall was dedicated 28 May, 2014.



Construction began on the Interpretive Center in late summer of 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in late summer 2018.

What is the mission statement of the Remembrance Run/Walk?
To raise community awareness and to raise funds for the continued construction of the park. Proceeds from the past six events have exceeded $46,000 ($54,695) and the event has drawn 2,199 (2,479) participants. Teams have been represented by multiple military units, local businesses, civic leaders, community organizations, and local schools. Each participant will receive a unique event t-shirt.

What does your participation mean?
Your participation is a signal to potential outside investors that our local communities support and are involved in this worthy project. This is sometimes the difference when raising funds for the larger items required for the Interpretive Center project. This is also a small gesture on Memorial Day to show our nation's past, present, and future veterans that our community cares.

Families, schools, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to develop teams to participate. Participants may join the run/walk for any length of time: one lap, one-mile, one hour, or the entire event. More details to follow.
