Mission of the Caring People

The Caring People bring the unfailing love of Christ to Single Moms. Founded in 1997 by Springfield, Missouri native JoDee Herschend. Our spectacular and gracious host for Run to the Lights is Silver Dollar City Our model is based on a simple principle...unconditional love, forgiveness and hope changes lives. We deliver “hope” by partnering  caring, Christian women as mentors with Single Moms in weekly Care Groups in churches primarirly.  Care Groups provide a sound support system for Single Moms, who often parent alone in difficult circumstances. But, there is hope in Jesus!  Currently, Care Groups operate in 3 states: Missouri, Oklahoma. and North Carolina. It’s our goal to plant thousands of Care Groups across the United States. But, it takes resources and that’s where Run to the Lights 5k makes a true impact.

Race Night Order of events

6:00 - 9:00 PM: On site Registration Enjoy the park until 9 pm!

9:30 PM: Welcome and entertainment by the big Christmas Tree

10:00 PM: Race Directions at Gazebo by the all-new, 8-story, state-of-the-art Christmas Tree!

10:15 PM: (Appx.) Race Begins Once Course is cleared for safety by SDC.

11:00 PM: Awards Ceremony and Prize Giveaways

11:15 PM: Thank you and dismissal

THE COURSE

The run begins by the Gazebo after instructions, at Cave Road and is an out and back run to the outer parking lots of SDC, winding back in through the streets of Silver Dollar City. The run ends at the main Christmas tree by the Gazebo.

All 5K participants receive:
1. A commemorative t-shirt
2. A wristband that allows you and your family early entry (6 PM)  the night of the race to enjoy the park before the park closes and before runners gather for instructions.  Immediate family only may come in with you. (A VALUE OF $65.00 each)
3. A bonus gift….a one day pass to SDC! Good for one visit during the remaining 2019 Silver Dollar City season. The pass is not valid on Saturdays and special holidays including the Friday after Thanksgiving.   ( A VALUE OF $65.00 each)

Cancelllations and Refund Policy

There are NO cancellation refunds for this race. In case of inclement weather, no refunds will be issued. Runners will receive shirts and passes to Silver Dollar City. Registration transfers are accepted until October 18, 2019.

Silver Dollar City Passes and Usage

All runners may enter as early as 6:00 pm with immediate family to enjoy the park race night, November 8th. (Immediate family is defined as those family members living with the registered participant, under the same roof.) Family may enter with you on your wrist band but all must be present at time of entry.

Each registered runner will receive one additional pass to come back to SDC before the 2019 season ends.
NOTE: The additional pass is not valid on Saturdays and is not valid the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Parking

USE PARKING LOTS 2 and 3 for the night when parking. Please know that cars won’t be released until race is over due to participants still on the course.

*YOU MUST BE INSIDE THE PARK BY 9 PM!

Awards Ceremony

Awards ceremony begins at approximately 11 pm. Medals will be awarded to the top overall male and female winner and to the top three male and female winners in each of the following age categories:

9 and under
10-13
14-19
20-29
30-39
40-49
50-59
60-69
70 and older

*Door prize and costume contest winners will be announced after the Awards Ceremony.

Race Directions for Runners

It is important that the fastest runners line up first when the instructions are given to line up. WALKERS AND THOSE WITH SLOWER TIMES, PLEASE STAY TOWARDS THE BACK FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL. Special instructions will be given regarding this prior to the race. Please follow the instructions on lining up as it makes for a more enjoyable and safe run for all participants and alleviates congestion.

Safety

Please Note: Safety First!

No wheelchairs allowed on the race course.  Strollers are allowed.

The race starts around 10:15 pm. The course must be cleared for safety reasons, thus the late start time. Please be patient.

SDC must follow safety protocol. Many runners and walkers are still on the course after the top finishers cross the line. This includes families with small children. Parking trams are not available after the race.  There will be a small shuttle, available to transport those who need assistance returning to their vehicles after the event.
