DeLuna's Beach Games |
Pensacola Sports is pleased to announce the inaugural DeLuna Beach Fest featuring an open water swim and volleyball tournament. An out and back course in Pensacola Sound gives swimmers of all levels a safe, protected body of water with minimal waves, currents, and wind. A full array of safety equipment will be used including jet skis, stand up paddle boards, kayaks, boats, life guards and an ambulance will be on-site to ensure safety of all participants. For the volleyball tournament, we be playing 4-person co-ed format following AVP rules. We will be using the Flounders courts and will set up additional courts as necessary.
DeLuna’s Beach Games gets its name from Don Tristan de Luna, a Spanish conquistador of the 16th century who led an ill-fated expedition to the Pensacola area in 1559, credited as America’s first settlement. Pensacola is rich in history and sports. A scroll of de Luna’s was recently discovered in the sand of Pensacola Beach outlining a competition festival they were planning. Unfortunately, a hurricane changed the course of Pensacola’s history, wiping out the settlement, thus never allowing the festival to take place. Our event is an effort to continue what de Luna started.
