CCVI Trolley Run - 31st Annual - Lily's Peeps
Sunday, April 28, 2019 in Kansas City, MO at 75th and Wornall Road - Sunday, April 28
The Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) has been a blessing to our family since the fall of 2015 when Lily was diagnosed with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). We later found out that Lily also has Optic Nerve Atrophy (ONA). These impairments affect how she processes and understands what she sees and how much she can actually see. A teacher of the visually impaired started coming to our home weekly at the end of 2015 to work with Lily, and when she turned two she was able to attend CCVI’s preschool two days a week. The great thing is that twin sister Harper also gets to attend as a sighted peer model. Now Lily is at CCVI four mornings a week and she is blossoming, especially with her verbal communication.
The teachers and therapists at CCVI are amazing. Lily not only receives help with her vision but works with a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a speech-language pathologist, and an orientation and mobility teacher to help with her gross and fine motor movements, developmental delays, and navigating her world. Harper learns so much too and loves being at school with her sister.
Dropping our girls off at CCVI is like putting them in the care of trusted family members. Lily navigates the hallway all smiles in her KidWalk and gives each of her teachers and therapists hugs and hellos. Every day I smile when I pick up the girls from CCVI. Lily will fly down the hallway in her walker, loudly and joyously singing the goodbye song as we exit the builiding. CCVI is a family - they love our girls and we love them. They not only support Lily and Harper but us as parents too in our journey on this unexpected life adventure.
Please join us in supporting CCVI through donation or by walking/running with our family in the Trolley Run on Sunday, April 28, 2019. We appreciate your time and your donations and most of all your love and support for our Lily and our family.
Love,
Brant, Kristie, Lily, Harper, and Boston Haafke
