Why we are raising funds for brain cancer

"It's a girl"! Those were the sweet words that made mommy and daddy's day, when mommy's doctor did the ultrasound. Olivia Asia Bicknell burst into this world on October 6th, 2010, at 6.8lbs, and 19 1/2 inches. At such a time of joy, one never expects a tragedy to be lurking around the corner. In six and a half years on earth, Olivia lived the life that most adults aren't fortunate enough to live. She was blessed, and a blessing to all who were lucky enough to come into contact with her. If any child ever FELT the love of those around her, she was it. Any picture of her you will find an ear to ear smile, with a glow of radiance and full of life, deep in her dark brown eyes. Her long, jet black hair always contrasted her fair skin, making it stand out that much more. Her spunk, laughter, sassiness, and often "strong will," could never be denied. She was the perfect mixture of naughty and nice, but all princess. In her short life, she would morph from princess to warrior.

Her diagnoses of DIPG on June 22nd, 2016 changed life as we knew it. As you see your child lose every motor skill little by little, it is something you wouldn’t wish on anyone. The faith we kept for an earthly healing never wavered, but you truly have to be tough as nails to witness something only a parent who has been through this can relate to. When she passed on May 19th, 2017, we made a vow that her legacy would live on, and even posthumously, we find ourselves doing any and everything for this girl. Mommy and daddy wouldn’t have it any other way, and this is the reason we want to raise funds and awareness. When you lose something so precious to you, and truly a prized possession, it drives you to do things that you wouldn’t do when life was “comfortable.”
