Mercer Island Half - Team Esten
Sunday, March 18, 2018 in Mercer Island, WA at Mercer Island Community and Events CenterMy name is Esten Gose, and I have a disease called Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, or FAP for short.
I was diagnosed at age 10, and had yearly colonoscopies until 2004 to monitor my colon for polyps.. At that time, my gastroenterologist told me that it was time to remove my entire colon, and that if we didn't, I would die within the next year from colon cancer.
In Summer of 2004, I had surgery to remove my colon, and was given a permanent ostomy. This surgery saved my life. Adjusting to having my ostomy was difficult, but knowing that I would not have to worry about colon cancer made it so much easier.
My friends and family rallied around me, and this summer,
I will be celebrating 15 years being cancer free.
On March 18th of this year, I will be participating in the Mercer Island Half Marathon walk for colon cancer awareness. This event is extremely important to colon cancer research. 100% of the money raised from this event stays local here in Western Washington to help fund the life saving research that is saving lives every single day.
Please consider donating, and help me raise awareness. Anything you can donate helps. Thank you in advance for supporting this amazing cause!
