Matthias Berhanu was a bright, compassionate young dreamer with an unwavering love for soccer and a heart full of kindness. He envisioned creating opportunities for underprivileged children in Ethiopia—his parents’ homeland—so they too could pursue their passions and find hope through sport.

Tragically, Matthias's life was cut short by a freak accident on December 17, 2010. Yet, his spirit lives on through the work of the Matthias Berhanu Soccer Foundation, founded in his honor in 2011.

The Matthias Berhanu Soccer Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children in Ethiopia by providing soccer equipment, resources, and mentorship. Our mission is to open doors, nurture talent, and inspire growth—on and off the field—by supporting youth in developing both soccer skills and life skills.

The MBS Foundation is designed for the whole family!!! The event will benefit the MBS Foundation whose main focus is to provide children with soccer equipment, gear, training, nutrition and education. 

The event will have music, sponsor tables, a voting registration table, and more.    

Race Day 5K:

Registration:  7:00 a.m.,

5K Race: 8:00 a.m.

Registration includes Official race bib and *T-shirt

Virtual/ Sleep-in Runner: 

Participants can sign up to run or walk virtually from anywhere to show your support!

Registration includes T-shirt   

T-Shirts will be available in the following sizes:

S, M, L XL, XXL and XXXL.  Register early to get your proper size!

Awards will be presented following the 5K! 

The following are the Award Categories for medals:

Male & Female 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Youth and Adult:  

13 Under, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 65 & over.

Plaques will be given for Top M/F Overall and the Top M/F (Master) over 40.

Awards will be presented following the 5K!
