General Event Details |
On October 19th, ShelterCare will be partnering with Thrill the World Eugene to host a Zombie-themed 5k with 100+ zombies hidden around the Alton Baker race course!
Zombies will not touch you, so please do not touch them. All of our zombies are volunteers. Some zombie makeup may be too scary for young children.
Please no dogs, unless service dogs. We do not want any of our zombie friends to get bitten!
For this event, you may run or walk! We encourage runners to line up towards the front of the start line. Strollers are also welcome., please line up towards the back of the start line. There will be a timing chip in your race bib, which will record your start time and end time as you cross the race line! The course is fully paved!
If you are interested in volunteering at this event, please email us at development@sheltercare.org

Frequently Asked Questions |
Q: Can I bring a stroller?
A: Yes, strollers and mobility devices are welcome! If you are bringing a stroller, please line up further towards the back of the start line- this way it does not create a bottle neck at the start.
Q: Are there prizes?
A: We have completion, zombie survival, medals for all youth. These are sponsored by Macaroni KID
There will also be trophies for fastest youth and fasted adult. Eclectic Edge posts race times broken down by winner in each age bracket, we are not able to provide a trophy for every bracket that they post.
Q: Is this a timed race?
A: Yes! On the back of your bib, you will see a timing chip. This chip is matched to your bib number and will record your start time when you cross the start line and your finish when you cross the finish line. You will then need to tear off the bottom of your bib and turn your chip in. Eclectic Edge Racing reuses the chips if they are able. Your race time will be printed and handed to you when you turn your chip in. All race times will also be posted HERE. The race chips also lets us know if a runner did not return from the race, which we may then need to do a walk through to ensure they are not lost.
Q: Will there be any additional activities at the event?
A: There will be face painting (no cost). There will be stretching led by Vista Counseling and Wellness Center. There will be a flash mob performance from Thrill the World Eugene. Several of our sponsors will have vendor booths with fun swag to giveaway!
Q: Will there be a bag check?
A: We will not have on-site bag check. We encourage you to leave belongings at home, safely hidden/locked in your vehicle, or with a friend attending.
Q: Can I register the day of the race?
A: Yes! We take card, cash, Venmo. Race registration will open at 1:30pm, race start-time is 3:00pm.
Q: How will the race be marked?
A: There will be neon yellow arrows, made out of tape, on the cement. There will also be "race marshals" with cowbells along the route to keep you going in the correct direction, and several arrow signs.
Q: Will there be shirts available to purchase at the event?
A: Yes! We will have shirts from this year and shirts from previous years for purchase at the event. Size inventory will be limited to what remains.
Q: Who can I ask for help at the event?
A: We will have several ShelterCare staff members in yellow or orange safety vests that you can ask questions to! We will also have staff working at the registration table.
