April is Donate Life Month! We are excited to announce the 19th Annual Axtell Donate Life 5K Walk/Run Sarah Nelson Memorial will be held on Sunday, May 25 in Axtell, NE. Please click the link below to register, make a donation and for more information. Proceeds support Live on Nebraska (formerly Donate Life) in memory of Sarah Nelson and in honor of the Axtell Cheerleaders.

Sarah is the the daughter of Steve and Elma Nelson. She graduated from Axtell Community School in 2003 and was a cheerleader. Sarah died unexpectedly, at age 21, on June 24th, 2006 as a result of hip surgery. Sarah gave the gift of life through organ donation to 4 people (heart, lungs, and kidneys) and many more through bone and tissue donation.

About the event: The Axtell Donate Life 5K Fun Run/Walk was started in 2007 by the Axtell Cheerleaders and honors the life of former Axtell cheerleader, Sarah Nelson (my sister). Sarah died unexpectedly at age 21 on June 24, 2006 as a result of hip surgery. Sarah gave the gift of life through organ donation to 4 people (heart, lungs and kidneys) and many more through bone and tissue donation. Sarah would have been senior at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont that fall where she was majoring in History and English. The Nelson Family is grateful for the ongoing support each year and for the community continuing to remember Sarah. The proceeds of the event support the Axtell Cheerleaders and Live on Nebraska (formerly Nebraska Donate Life). The event is held the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
