Awards

The awards ceremony for the high school competition and for the overall men’s and women’s 10K winners will be held at 11:30 A.M. on the Prefontaine Track adjacent to the finish line. Divisional awards for the 10K race will be presented at noon. The top three individual placers in the 5K team competition for men and women will receive awards. For the 10K race, awards will be given in five-year age groups with the first three finishers in each division receiving awards.

2-Mile Details

A fun walk will be held in conjunction with the 10K run. Walkers have their choice of walking the entire 10K route or the shorter 2-mile course. Walkers will start at the rear of the starting pack and follow the same course until reaching the corner of 10th& Central, where the 2-mile walkers take a left turn on 10th toward the stadium (see course map.) Chip timing will be provided for the 2-mile fun walk. Race timing devices will be turned off at 11:45 A.M. so we can produce timely and accurate race results. Full course walkers finishing prior to 11:45 A.M. will receive official times.

Packet Pickup

Packets and t-shirts will be available at the St. Monica Parish Hall on September 20th and 21st. If circumstances require an alternate distribution method, t-shirts will be available in the finish area at the Prefontaine Track following the race.

T-Shirts

An attractive t-shirt is included in the entry fee and can be picked up with your registration packet at the St. Monica Parish Hall on September 20th and 21st during registration hours if we are able to hold a traditional registration. If registration needs to be altered, t-shirts will be distributed in the finish area following the race.

Course Control & Course Map

The course will be closed to vehicular traffic during most of the race. Since the race course is a State Highway, the Coos Bay Police will use their discretion as to when the course is reopened to traffic. Participants still on the race course after it has been reopened should move to the sidewalks and beware of traffic on the course.

The Steve Prefontaine Foundation

The Steve Prefontaine Foundation invites you to contribute to the permanent, endowed scholarship fund established with the Coos Bay School District in Pre’s name. The Foundation will continue to add to the corpus with the help of those of you who treasure Pre’s memory. We will continue to build the Steve Prefontaine Memorial Scholarship that will award scholarships to deserving Marshfield student-athletes in perpetuity. Presently, the Foundation awards a $2,000 scholarship.

In addition to the $2,000 endowed scholarship at Marshfield, the Foundation annually awards a $2,000 scholarship to a Coos County graduating senior who has shown dedication to their high school cross country or track and field program and who will go on to a college career. The Foundation also assists Coos County high schools in maintaining their cross country and track and field programs through monetary grants and by supporting the Prefontaine Track Club summer track program.
