Proceeds support Donate Life, in memory of Sarah Nelson, and the Axtell High School cheerleaders.

The Axtell Donate Life 5K Fun Run/Walk was started in 2007 by the Axtell Cheerleaders and honors the life of a former Axtell cheerleader, Sarah Nelson. Sarah died unexpectedly at age 21 on June 24th, 2006 as a result of hip surgery. Sarah gave the gift of life through organ donation to 4 people (heart, lungs, and kidneys) and many more through bone and tissue donation. Sarah would have been a senior at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont that fall, where she was majoring in History and English. The proceeds of the event support the Axtell Cheerleaders and Live On Nebraska.
