About the Glühwein Gallop |
Get ready for some wintertime fun on December 4th in the inaugural Glühwein Gallop 5k Run/Walk! This NEW event starts at 10:30am during the Carmel Christkindlmarkt festivities at Carter Green.
The Glühwein Gallop draws its name from the German word Glühwein (pronounced 'glue vine'), which translates to Glowing Wine in English. Glühwein is a delicious mulled wine that is served warm in different flavors. Glühwein and its special mugs are one of the biggest attractions each year at Christkindlmarkt. Glühwein mugs are SOLD SEPARATELY at the market and are NOT INCLUDED with your registration fee.
This beautiful 5k course will start/finish at the Christkindlmarkt festival, traveling on the Monon Trail and past the shops along Mainstreet and Rangeline Road. Once you finish, you'll be at the market, which opens at 12:00pm. Registrants 21+ will receive a ticket for a complimentary serving of Glühwein or beer! Hot chocolate and other non-alcoholic refreshments will also be available.
In addition to the race, there will also be a costume contest, and prizes will be awarded to our favorite costumes!

What is Christkindlmarkt? |
The Carmel Christkindlmarkt has brought the old-world charm of Christmas in Germany to Carmel, Indiana. The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is an open-air Christmas market in traditional German style, and was founded as a nonprofit organization in 2017 with the support of the City of Carmel and Mayor James Brainard.
The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is dedicated to creating an authentic German market with products sourced from Germany and other German-speaking European countries. You will find a blend of traditional German foods and gifts being sold from small wooden huts, and the market surrounds a beautiful outdoor ice skating rink.
The Carmel Christkindlmarkt has become the premier holiday offering in Indiana, attracting well over half a million people since the opening. An extensive poll by USA Today’s 10BEST travel media group has named Carmel Christkindlmarkt the No. 1 winner in the 2019 USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice travel award contest for Best Holiday Market. In addition the market received the distinction of being the top Christmas market in the state of Indiana by Taste of Home Magazine in 2017.
