About the Event

The 17th annual Carmel Sprint Triathlon, hosted by Carmel Swim Club is happening Sunday, April 18 at Carmel High School. This event offers the ideal sprint distances for both beginner and experienced triathletes who are looking to have fun and tune-up for the season ahead! The atmosphere of this event is youth friendly and provides a great opportunity to introduce kids to the sport of triathlon.

This event features 4 categories:

Carmel Swim Club is a USA Swimming Gold Club. All proceeds from the event support the development of youth athletes in this nationally-recognized program.

- Mandatory Pre-race Meeting - 8:30am
- Race Start - 9:00am

This event has a limit of 1,000 total participants. If this limit is not reached before event weekend, we will allow on-site registration at the pre-race packet pickup on Saturday. Packet Pick-up will take place from 1:00pm - 4:00pm, at Carmel High School.

Youth Triathlon

Youth, ages 6 to 15, are welcome to compete in the short-course event! Ages 6 to 9 will do a 200 meter swim and ages 10 to 15 will do a 300 meter swim. All youth age groups will compete in a 3 mile bike and 1 mile run.

Youth (age 14+) may compete in the adult race, but must have an adult present with them when registering.

Age groups are as follows: 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15

Youths will compete as the age that they will be at end of the 2020. Ex. If a youth participant is 15 on raceday, but will be 16 before December 31, 2020, they must compete as a 16 year old in the adult division.

Youth bikes must have working brakes and all athletes must have helmet on and strapped during bike portion. ALSO - NO drop or aero handlebars are allowed for youth.

Age-Groups & Awards

Adult: 15 and under, 16-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc. in 5-year increments
Youth: 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15

The Awards Ceremony will be held around 12:00pm. Awards will be presented in the following formats to both individuals and teams.

- Individuals:Top 3 Male/Female
- Team Relay: Top 1 Male, Female, and Co-ed

---Age-Group Awards---
- Youth: Top 3 Males/Females
- Adult: Top 3 Males/Females

---Clydesdale & Athena---
- Clydesdale (220 lbs +): Age 39 and under, and Age 40 and above
- Athena (165 lbs +): Age 39 and under, and Age 40 and above

Adult Triathlon
- Swim: 400m
- Bike: 10 miles
- Run: 5k

Youth Triathlon
- Swim (6-9): 200m
- Swim (10-15): 300m
- Bike: 3 miles
- Run: 1 mile

The Swim

The swim portion of the triathlon will be held in the state-of-the-art, 50 meter pool. Race start is time-trial style in 5 second intervals. Racers are organized into "flights" which are seeded by self-reported 100 meter swim times. Flights are organized and staged in gymnasium to reduce on deck waiting.

Swim warm-up starts at 7:30am

The Bike

The bike portions are held outside in the scenic heart of Carmel. The bike course is flat and fast, with a minimal amount of turns.

- Adult: 10 miles
- Youth: 3 miles

The Run

The run course is mostly flat and travels through the neighborhoods adjacent to Carmel High School and the Carmel Arts and Design districts.

- Adult: 5k
- Youth: 1 mile

There is NO RACE DAY registration

Refund Policy

Event may be cancelled, delayed or reformatted due to weather, water conditions, or other emergencies. Refunds are ONLY given for the following exceptions
. Volunteering for event
. Serious medical problem
. Military service
. Funeral, etc.

If one of the above pertains, the following refunds may be provided*:
- Refund, minus $10 if notified at least one week in advance
- Refund, minus $15.00 if notified within one week of the event
- Refund of 50% of entry fee if notified after completion of the event

Participant may pay a transfer fee to another event OR another person**:
- $10.00 if notified at least one week in advance
- $15.00 if notified the week of the event

**Plus additional cost of other event if it applies. Not applicable after the completion of the event.
