Steam Camp AM/PM Sessions |
An interactive approach to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) in order to introduce students to the various careers in the area of STEAM. Students will get experience in all areas of STEAM, rather than focus solely on one element of STEAM.
Students will be able to select two STEAM Challenges for Tuesday’s Mindbender. Please see the options and their descriptions of each below.
Movie Institute
Acting Up! TM Improv Film Acting Lab
Have fun bringing a movie scene and character to life through engaging and hilarious interaction. Work with a veteran film actor to explore the laughs and creativity found only in improv!
BONUS: Best improvs will be posted on the Movie Institute YouTube channel!

Engineering Design
Physics and simple machines are intertwined into the foundation of engineering design. We are surrounded by machines and contraptions that have made our lives easier through the implementation of simple machines. In this class, these engineering principles are woven into live, hands on building activities using LEGO™ bricks to bring these concepts to life!

Things that go: Compete for Wind Speed
Youth will build on their knowledge of renewable energy and will experiment with Newton’s third law of motion to test the power of wind and thrust. They must create enough thrust to power a car they will creatively design and engineer out of various materials.
Materials needed: skewers, balloons, shake straws, masking tape, flexible straws, 16-oz cups, cardboard sheets, Styrofoam balls, mints, scissors, stopwatch, measuring tape
FISD
Digital Story Telling & Animation
Students will learn the basics or process of digital storytelling with animation. Story concept creation, storyboarding, creating and animating your original cartoon character.
