Event Information

T shirt to all starters and post race hamburger cookout with beans, chips, and soft drinks, etc., free to all runners and guests. The 20K race will be limited to the first 300 entrants.

The weather is unpredictable. Come prepared. Temperatures can range from below freezing to mid 90's Update (record high 105 Oct 15, 2017, We told you it would be hot. Sunrise: 7:58 AM Sunset: 7:04 PM but the daylight in the canyon is shorter

Location

Start / finish in Juniper Picnic area approximately 6 miles in State Park from Park entrance gate. Palo Duro State Park is located approximately 25 miles South of Amarillo. From Amarillo, take I-27 south.

Exit State Hwy. 217 (exit #106) Turn East (left). Participants and guests will get in at no charge from 6am to 7:30am. Regular fees apply after 7:30am

Driving time from Amarillo to start area is approximately 45 to 55 minutes. Please allow plenty of time to arrive safely.

The course is 99% dirt trails on floor of Palo Duro Canyon State Park. 50 mile - four 12.5 mile loops. 50K - one 6 mile loop and two 12.5 mile loops, 20K one 12.5 mile loop. No pets allowed on course or at start / finish area.

Five well stocked aid stations. Water, Gatorade, Coke and a wide variety of food and snacks. Water-bottle recommended. Easy crew access, but handler not needed. Ice will be available at front four aid stations.

Packet Pickup

Pre-Race Briefing and packet pickup Friday Oct 20, 2017. Mack Dick Pavilion in Palo Duro Canyon, 4:30pm to 6:00pm. Entry will be free to packet pickup only. If you want to tour the canyon and see the Start/Finish area, you will need to pay the normal entry fee to avoid being ticketed. The canyon staff is being very generous by allowing runners in free to packet pickup so please let them know at the gate on Friday if you intend to go anywhere other than packet pickup.

Earlybird pickup at Karen's Store. Get Fit, 1911 S Georgia, Amarillo 4:30pm to 5:30pm Thursday Oct 19, 2017.

Race Day Packet Pickup (only as a last resort). Juniper Campground Finish line area. The start/finish line will be at the South end of the campground.

There are several camping areas within the Park which are available for overnight camping including some cabins.
