2017 Canton Half and 10K has been cancelled due to recent tornados.

As many of you know, the Canton and Van Zandt county area were severely affected by 9 separate tornadoes on April 29.

Many of you have inquired as to how the area is doing and if the race was still going to be held.

The area is still recovering and digging out. Many of our citizens have lost part of or all their homes and possessions.

There is a long road to go on getting back to normal for our citizens but we have a great team of 1st responders, volunteers and fellow citizens who all have gone above the call of duty to help out.

That said, the decision has been made to cancel the 2017 Canton Half / 10K.

The race will not be rescheduled.

This decision was not made lightly.

The main reason we decided to cancel the race is due to the concern of having adequate amounts of volunteers to help out on the course. Many of the normal volunteers we rely on either lost their homes or are helping others who did. We didn't think it would be appropiate to pull this manpower into our race when their efforts should be focused elsewhere.

Concerning the entry fees, SWAG and sponsorship money.

* Many of our sponsors have told us to donate their sponsor money to the badly needed recovery funding efforts.
* There will be no refunds of race entry fees. The entry fee proceeds will be put towards the funding of the recovery efforts.
* We decided that the race fees will not be credited to 2018 due to logistical and staffing issues with those of us who volunteer to administer the race admin functions.
* Shirts, packets, ect will not be distributed due to logistical and race staffing issues.

We hope that you can understand all the variables and logistics involved in the decision making process. We tried to look into every option available other than canceling the race. We felt at this time this is the right decision to make.

Join us for the inauguaral Canton Balloon Half & 10K. You will start and finish in the center of the Canton Trade Days shopping area, next to hot air balloons. Weather permitting, you will have a view of hot air balloons throughout your run. Make the drive out to Canton and spend the weekend enjoying shopping, a free Friday night Glow Run 5K, balloon festivities and community.
