General Event Details |
Pacing for the Cure has received substantial support from Harness Racing participants at The Meadows Racetrack and Casino over the past decade. To express our gratitude, we are pleased to host our inaugural event of the year at this esteemed venue as a kickoff to their most prestigious week of racing.
The Meadows Racetrack and Casino offers a unique opportunity to blend two sports together. You will be running/walking directly on the limestone surface that the best horses in the country competed on just the day before. This 5k event is the lead off to The Meadows most prestigious week of the year, Adios Week.
Why Join The Quest of Pacing For The Cure?
Pacing For The Cure is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization that initially focused on helping individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) obtain financial assistance for medical equipment and services to manage this chronic, debilitating and not yet curable disease of the central nervous system. Additionally, the organization supports cutting-edge MS research. Over the years, Pacing For The Cure has expanded its mission to also assist individuals living with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS), Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s Disease and Cancer. These neurological conditions (excluding Cancer) share overlapping and distinct symptoms such as muscle weakness and spasm, tremors, fatigue, difficulty with coordination and balance, and potential problems with walking. Although Cancer is not a neurological disease, it is a chronic, debilitating and not yet curable disease as well where individuals can also benefit from our mission. Pacing For The Cure provides typical assistance for individuals in financial need, including:
Medical Equipment: scooters, wheelchairs, lift chairs, hoyer lifts
Medical Services: copays for treatments and therapies
The Charity’s tie to Harness Racing (and specifically The Meadows Racetrack):
Jeff and Janine purchased a yearling pacer named Mr. Bill G with their personal funds from Winbak Farm in honor (now memory) of Jeff’s dad Mr. Bill Gesek. The Pacing For The Cure Ambassador racehorse Mr. Bill G raced at THIS RACETRACK, the Meadows, for a period of time getting 2 wins before transitioning into his new career competing in Dressage! Mr. Bill G continues to draw attention with his large size and majestic presence. A friendly Standardbred who loves people and children, he plays a vital role in spreading awareness about the debilitating, chronic, and not yet curable diseases Pacing For The Cure supports.
