Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the status with the jumps and throws this year?
A: We still hope to add jumps and throws groups for our Mon/Wed practices at Logan, but we need to finalize coaches for these sessions. We are optimistic that we will be able to recruit coaches, but cannot guarantee it. If and when we have a good coaching core, these registration categories will also be open. If you know any potential youth track and field coaches, particularly for the long/triple jump, high jump and the throws, please tell them to apply online ASAP for a coaching position (see the Track Club website for the link: www.lacrossetrackclub.org)

Q: What are the summer practice dates?
A: Practices begin the week of June 4th, and end on July 13th.

Q: What are the times of the practices?
A: All practices begin promptly at 6:00 pm and end at 7:15 pm.

Q: Where will practices be held?
A: Due to increasing participation in our summer track & field program, there will be TWO different practice sites again this year to keep numbers manageable for effective coaching. The Grades 1-5 program, as well as the sprints and distance groups for Grades 6-12, will be at La Crosse CENTRAL High School. The Grades 6-12 technique programs (throws, jumps, hurdles) and the pole vault program will be at La Crosse LOGAN High School.

Q: Is attendance at practices mandatory?
A: No... The program is flexible, there are no minimum attendance expectations. If you have to miss a practice, no problem. (And there is no need to notify a coach, we don't take attendance.)

Q: Are there any discounts for doing both the Mon/Wed and the Tue/Thur sessions?
A: An athlete in the grades 6-12 running groups (sprints or distance) can get $15 off the registration fee for the Technique groups (hurdles, jumps, or throws). You will get a discount code in your registration confirmation email after registering for the 6-12 sprints/distance group.

Q: Is it possible to obtain reduced fees/financial assistance?
A: Yes! It is the La Crosse Track Club's policy to exclude nobody based on inability to pay. If money is tight and you need some help, use the "Contact the Organizers" button on the main page of this registration site to obtain the reduced fee enrollment option. This is available to anyone and everyone, regardless of school, skills, achievements, or status as student athlete or non-athlete.

Q: Is the pre-season parent information meeting mandatory?
A: YES all parents should attend. The parent meeting is mandatory for parents of new participants and HIGHLY recommended for parents of returning athletes as well. We will be providing important information that will give you and your athlete an advantage prior to the start of the season. Date and time of meeting TBA.

Q: Is this an "elite" program?
A: No... Although we do have some very talented athletes every year, we welcome youth athletes of all ability levels.

Q: Is this a "feeder" program for the La Crosse school system?
A: No... Youth athletes from any school district may participate.

Q: Are any track meets included in the registration fee?
A: Athletes ages 6-14 can compete in two local meets with other area track programs (Friday mornings, June 22 and July 13). There are no extra fees for participants (or spectators) for these meets. There are also options for large out-of-town meet opportunities for athletes of all ages which will have additional entry fees.

Q: If I have three kids who want to participate, can I "batch register" all three of my kids at once?
A: Unfortunately, no. (Each will need to be registered separately.)

Q: My child isn't quite sure about this. Can we observe a practice to see how things go before we commit to it?
A: While visitors are certainly welcome, PLEASE NOTE that due to the popularity of the program, participant numbers are limited. Once registration is full, a waiting list will be implemented. So it is possible that one or more sessions may be filled even before the first day of practice.
