Frequently Asked Questions

***NOTE*** Several seesions are now CLOSED for new registrants due to being at maximum capacity. Registration limits were necessary to ensure a safe and enjoyable program, to keep coach:athlete ratio at an appropriate level.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Q: Where will practices be held?
A: Due to increasing participation in our summer track & field program, there will be TWO different practice sites 2017 in order to keep groups of athletes in manageable sizes to allow coaches to most effectively teach. Most of the sprint training, distance running training, as well as all the Grades 1-5 groups will be at La Crosse Central High School. The UW-L track facility will be home to several technique clinics for grades 6-12 field events, as well as an intermediate/advanced hurdles clinic and a separate pole vault clinic.

Q: Is the parent information meeting on May 30th mandatory?
A: No, but it is highly recommended, even if you are returning from last year. In addition to useful information about the season and the meets, there will be helpful tips to keep your athlete at his or her best!

Q: What are the dates?
A: Practices for grades 6-12 sprints/distance running groups will begin on Tuesday May 30th (same date as parent informational meeting). Grades 1-5 participants will ALSO have their first practice on this date (even though all other grades 1-5 practices are on Mon & Wed.) All of the UW-L technique clinics will begin on Monday June 5th. The program ends after the second week of July. Practices vary by day depending on age group and category... see complete calendar and event schedule here: www.lacrossetrackclub.org

Q: What are the times of the practices?
A: All practices begin at 6:00 pm and end at 7:15 pm.

Q: What should my youth athlete wear to practices?
A: Something comfortable. Shoes appropriate for physical activity are required (no sandals/flip-flops!)

Q: Is attendance at scheduled practices mandatory?
A: No. The program is flexible, there are no minimum attendence expectations. If you have to miss a practice, no problem. (And there is no need to notify a coach, we don't take attendance.)

Q: Is this an "elite" camp?
A: No... Although we do have some very talented athletes every year, we welcome youth athletes of all ability levels.

Q: Is this a "feeder" program for the La Crosse school system?
A: No... Youth athletes from any school district may participate.

Q: Are any track meets included in the registration fee?
A: Athletes ages 6-14 can compete in three mini-meets with other area track programs (we are also trying to get permission for athletes ages 15-16 to also compete in these mini-meets in an exhibition category, without awards.) There are no extra fees for participants (or spectators) for these Friday morning mini-meets.

Q: If I have three kids who want to participate, can I "batch register" all three of my kids at once?
A: Unfortunately, no. Each will need to be registered separately.

Q: My child isn't quite sure about this. Can we come to a practice to see how things go before we commit to it?
A: Visitors are always welcome at practices, and a one-day trial practice is possible if the parent prints and signs the waiver/release form (available at www.lacrossetrackclub.org) and brings it to practice. But PLEASE NOTE that due to high popularity of the program, registration participant caps may be used, to ensure an adequate coach:athlete ratio. Therefore, although unlikely, it is possible that all spots in one or more sessions may be filled before the season even begins.

Q: How do I learn more?
A: Download the brochure (available on www.lacrossetrackclub.org)
