CCVI Trolley Run - 31st Annual - Go Buddy Go!
Sunday, April 28, 2019 in Kansas City, MO at 75th and Wornall Road - Sunday, April 28
Go Buddy Go! has been our rally cry for over six years. If you haven’t met Buddy, you’ve most certainly heard me talk about him or seen a Facebook post.
What I don’t talk nearly enough about is The Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI), a non-profit organization offering Buddy an individualized, educational curriculum designed around his vision impairment and multiple disabilities.
He receives physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy each week. He’s learning how to communicate with assistive technology – pushing buttons that say “yes”, “no”, “more”, and an ipad loaded with speech language software enabling him to point to pictures to tell us his wants and needs. He’s also learning how to use a wheelchair and a walker to gain some mobility independence.
Sounds pretty impressive, right? Sounds expensive, right? The answer is yes and yes.
On average, it costs $40,000 to educate each child at CCVI. Donations are its lifeblood. Without donations, the doors close. Kids are shut out.
Please do not be fooled by it being referred to as a “school” and brush off my request for donations as just another school fundraiser.
CCVI is a non-profit. It's not an elite, private school for the wealthy. CCVI does not turn anyone away for lack of ability to pay. They welcome kiddos of all socio-economic backgrounds, regardless of ability to pay or severity of disability.
I’ll be the first to tell you caring for a special needs is hard.
It takes a toll emotionally, physically and financially. It strains relationships with your friends, family, spouse and other kiddos. Organizations like CCVI lessen the stress and fear of the unknown and the challenges you face each day.
We’d love for you to join our team and/or donate! All proceeds go directly to CCVI.
