Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma and Sunset Festival - 2018 - Pa's Pack
Sunday, July 1, 2018 in Indianapolis, IN at Lawton Loop Parade Grounds with courses through Fort Harrison State ParkIt is hard to believe it’s been almost three years since we lost Dad. At times, it seems not so long ago, while at other times, it seems like it has been forever. No matter the time that will pass, or the distance; his life, legacy, and memories continue to be with us every day.
One of those legacies is the Larry E. Hainey Melanoma Education Fund, which supports Outrun the Sun efforts to educate people about sun safety, skin cancers and melanoma.
Because of friends and family like you, more than $10,000 have been donated to this education fund. It currently supports sun safety education programming for the Indianapolis area YMCAs, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. As you know, Larry loved to golf, and in 2016, the fund supplied sunscreen and sun safety information to more than two thousand volunteers during the BMW PGA Championship at Crooked Stick, in Carmel, IN.
Every day, Outrun the Sun is working to build awareness about melanoma and other skin cancers. Scott serves on their board of directors, and I am now Outrun the Sun’s Education and Outreach Coordinator. Our family sees first-hand this organization’s dedication to educating the public about preventive measures that reduce melanoma’s incidence rate as well as their fundraising efforts for melanoma research, effective treatments, and a potential cure.
We ask that you consider honoring Dad’s memory and legacy this year as we are raising funds again. Our hope is in the near future, a cure will be found, so no family will have to experience a loss due to skin cancer or melanoma.
