Any Baby Can's 13th Annual Walk for Autism

What is Autism? Autism is a serious developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact. Autism spectrum disorder impacts the nervous system and the range and severity of symptoms can vary widely. Common symptoms include difficulty with communication, difficulty with social interactions, obsessive interests, and repetitive behaviors.

One in 68 children is now identified with an autism spectrum disorder. However, the diagnosis means something different to each person and family affected by it. "If you meet one person with autism, you've met one person with autism," Stephen M. Shore, EdD once said.

My son Nathaniel was diagnosed at the age of 3 and our family's lives were impacted. There has been stress owing to complicated therapy schedules, home treatments, and juggling job responsibilities and family commitments. There is also financial stress coming from the expensive therapies and the need to meet my children's emotional needs. Along with these stresses, there have been wonderful moments, watching my son do and accomplish many things and with the stresses and or accomplishments, I celebrate my life with him everyday.

"Any Baby Can of San Antonio" is a non-profit agency and all services are provided at no cost - regardless of income - to families who have a child birth through 17 years of age with a chronic illness.
