Firecracker 5k Run / Healthwalk and 1/2 Mile Fun Run

Wednesday morning, July 4th, 2012

7:00 - 7:55 AM: Check-In
7:30 AM: 1/2 mile fun run
8:00 AM: 5K Run, Healthwalk, & Stroll

Race Day Registration (no shirt guarantee, $25)

Giant Post-Race Race Party: Catered fixins by Clark's' Tailgate, fresh fruit from D'Anna produce, ice cold Michelob Ultra Beer, and Ozark Sport Drink replacement drink.

5K (3.1 miles) will start and finish at Mall St. Vincent Parking Lot (directly behind Sears) Race will proceed through historic South Highland Subdivision, one of Shreveport's oldest & most beautiful neighborhoods. A scenic and challenging road race for runners, walkers, and sightseers.

Strollers, wagons, baby joggers, and any hand pushed or pulled vehicle will be allowed on the course, but at a walk pace capacity only.

Absolutely NO in-line skates, roller skates or runners with baby strollers will be allowed on run course. This rule is an RRCA regulation!

First 101 male and first 60 female finishers across the finish line will be timed and awarded a commemorative glass mug.

No age group trophies will be awarded, just come out and have fun! Come out and get the prized mug for your post race celebration.

Welcome to the 28th Running of the Sportspectrum Firecracker 5K Run & Healthwalk. This coming July 4th, our nation's birthday promises to be celebrated with a special passion and purpose by Americans from coast to coast. Last year over 3000 runners, walkers, and weekend warriors filled the streets of South Highlands to participate in the largest sporting event in the Ark-La-Tex. Special thanks to our sponsor Ark-La-Tex Cardiology. It's hard to believe it has been 28 years since we first started this race with a total of 40 participants at Spring Lake Point APTS. Its been a great ride and a lot of fun sharing my July 4th memories with all my friends. I hope to see you out this July 4th, we have a great morning lined up for you. Matt Brown

This race is being run in the memory of three great friends. Ran Kiper, Jim Wilhite, & Robin Fell. They all had a passion for the great outdoors, from a Saturday morning jog with ―the group‖ to a competitive half-marathon down on the Riverfront. They were all leaders, giving their time and resources to organizations and individuals in need. They loved their families and friends, and were committed to living life the its fullest -I miss you guys!!

The 1996 Firecracker 5K was Ran's last foot race. The following day he was diagnosed with cancer and past away that September. We have all been touched by a family member, friend or loved on who has fought the battle against cancer. This race is in the memory of Ran Kiper, but can be run in memory of someone you know. Below on your official entry form, you will find an area where you can make a donation of $10.00 or more to the American Cancer Society in memory of your loved one. All contributors will be given a special ribbon to be worn on race day. Remember all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
