Race Information |
The race will cover 20 to 30 miles over the course of 8 to 10 hours. The race will consist of orienteering, biking, paddling and possibly a zip line (permit still in the works). We have the race set up to be enjoyed by both experienced and novice racers. The course is difficult and will be challenging. It will be a sprint for the more experienced racer and easy enough for the less experienced racer to give them a full 10-hour race. The maps will be plotted and trails for the park will be on the maps. For those of you who have hiked at the park before, you understand that a little training on some hills will be useful for this race. Palisades is the word used to describe a line of lofty, steep cliffs usually seen along a river. This park fits the description.
Orienteering - The orienteering will be in the park on trails, roads, and through the woods. Expect to cover 3-5 miles.
Biking - The biking may be on paved or gravel roads, mostly outside the park in the countryside. You may even take a ride through the small town of Savanna. Expect 15-20 miles of biking.
Paddling - Paddling will be in the back waters of the Mississippi River. Expect to paddle flatwater (unless it's windy!!) for about 3-5 miles.
