Run With Carl

Schedule of Events:
6:30 AM: Packet pick-up
7:30 AM: 1/2-mile fun run
7:30 AM: 1-mile fun run
8:00 AM: Memorial Service
8:15 AM: 5-mile run
8:30 AM: 5K run/walk
9:30 AM: Awards program/presentation

Both the 5 mile run (IL99007KU) and the 5K run/walk (05001KU) are USATF-certified courses. The courses are run on city streets and the Bettendorf recreation path. The courses are very scenic with challenging hills. Course protection, splits and water stops will be provided.

Friday, September 4th, from 3:00 - 7:00 PM
Saturday, September 5th, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Monday, September 7th, from 6:30 - 7:30 AM

Important Note:
If you are competing for an award, you must register before race day and you need to be sure to pick up a timing chip prior to the race.

Awards:

• Top 3 overall male and female
  
• First 3 places in the following age groups: 0-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59
  
• First 2 places in the following age groups: 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+
  

Began in 1995, the annual Labor Day "Run With Carl" is the primary funding vehicle for the Carl D. Schillig Memorial Fund. The Bettendorf Rotary is the title sponsor for Run With Carl.

Carl Schillig, a student at Pleasant Valley High School, was 15 years old when he died in a car-pedestrian accident while participating in the Civil War Reenactment at the Village of East Davenport, Sept. 17, 1994.

Carl was active in numerous school, community and church activities. The memorial fund was established by Carl's family to perpetuate his memory and enthusiasm for life by providing college scholarships to graduates of Pleasant Valley. The first scholarship was awarded in 1998. In 2002, the scholarship award was extended to include graduates of Bettendorf High School.

The scholarship is given to a student with a minimum 2.3+ grade point average who exemplifies Carl's spirit through participation in school, sports and community and church activities.

Each recipient receives a $4,000 scholarship over 4 years, contingent on satisfactory performance.
