General Event Details |
What's an eleven week marathon? It's a special kid's marathon for children ages 5-12 in which participants can run, walk, or wheel-chair 25 miles over eleven weeks at school or home, and ending with a final 1.2-mile run following the Pensacola Marathon on November 8, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. Upon completion, the young athletes will have ran, walked, or wheel-chaired a full 26.2 mile marathon.
A kick-off event will be Saturday, September 26 in association with the Pensacola Runner's Association annual Seafood Festival 5K. Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the 8:30 a.m. one mile run kick-off. Additionally, it will be a Kid's Fun Run, all kids 13 and under are invited to run a mile downtown. Registration for the Subway Kids Marathon will be available on site.
Kids can monitor their progress with an interactive training log website which is geared to youth runners. As the participant completes his/her next milestone, it shows their progress on a fun log and awards them with coupons and tips along the way.
While there is a minimal cost ($15) for kids to participate, there is a need for sponsors to help cover the cost of some schools and students who cannot afford the entry fee. If a company is interested in sponsoring a school or a certain number of students, contact our office at 850-434-2800 or jlibbert@pensacolasports.com
This program is not limited to local students. Athletes in neighboring counties are welcome to participate and log their miles. Many children from out of state registered, logged their miles, and traveled down with their parents who were participating in the half or full marathon.
