Q: When and where is the event?
A: Event will be held on Saturday, August 8th beginning at 7:40am. Event will be held in Coal Valley, IL at Case Creek Obstacles. Parking is available on site.
Q: Who does it benefit?
A:In addition to funding Junior League of the Quad Cities initiatives, a portion of the 2015 race proceeds will benefit both The Women's Giving Network and the Child Abuse Council.
Q: What is the format?
A: All women, 5K (ish) off-road obstacle race, chip timed event for women of all athletic abilities. Includes mud pits, rope bridge, a lot of mud, tire wall, army crawls, did we mention mud? Plus several more surprises! The course is designed to encourage exploring the limits of your comfort zone, but unless you are in the competitive division, it is not mandatory that you complete all of the obstacles. Competitive division racers must complete all obstacles to place. Expect to get dirty, make friends and feel empowered!
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Competitive Division: $65 per racer (includes event tee, chip timed race entry with competitive chip scored obstacle); Recreation Division: $65 - Early Bird special $55 per racer (same as Competitive Division, except no scored obstacle). Team of over 10 people gets $10 off ticket/each person.
Q: How do I register?
A: Race registration is open at GetMeRegistered. Racers must be at least 18 years old to participate.
Q: May I watch the race if I am not racing?
A: Yes, this event is all about empowering women so all support is welcomed, however due to safety and liability reasons no one other than volunteers and race participants are allowed on the course. The only spot for spectators will be the start/finish area! You can see 3-4 obstacles from this area, however.
Q: Will there be awards?
A: The Awards Ceremony will take place after the final competitive racer crosses the finish line. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Competitive Division 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place, Largest Team, Best Team Costume, and Best Individual Costume.
Best Costume categories must register themselves no later than 10am at the event!
Q: Is there a post race party?
A: Mulligan's at 310 W 1st Ave Coal Valley, IL. Racers & Volunteers please join us for the I AM Strong After-Party. Party starts around 11:30AM and there will be food served at no cost for racers. (Or whenever you're done at the race site).
Q: Why should I be inspired to participate?
A: JLQC's "I am..." Initiative is to help improve the perception and self-image of women and girls through leadership and empowerment to inspire change.
Q: What should I wear?
A: It is recommended to wear long sleeves and either pants or long socks to avoid scratches. Also shoes will get muddy so either tape or tie them on tight. Bring a towel and change of clothes for after the race.
Q: Will there be a bag check this year?
A: NO, however the parking will be a lot closer so any items you don't want lost, stolen, or really muddy, you should leave in your car.
Q: How long does this race generally take?
A: Last year the top competitor took 55 minutes and the general recreational participant took around 2 hours.
Q: Is alcohol allowed on the premise?
A: Alchohol is not permitted on the race site; however, there is an after party where alcohol will be served at Mulligan's located at 310 W 1st Ave in Coal Valley, IL.
