Run for Shelter 5K

Run for Shelter is a certified 5K road race and family carnival that benefits Transitions Global, an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing after-care homes to and restoring the lives of girls who have been victims of sex trafficking. The race is open to runners and walkers of all abilities.

We're raising money for a serious cause, but the event itself is anything but serious. It's a day that is so fun, an afternoon nap is guaranteed. Oh, and the kids might need a nap, too.

Race begins at 9:00 a.m.

The USATF sanctioned 5K route will start in front of the Oakley Senior and Recreation Center and finish near the ball field next to the Center. The route winds around the outer loop of the Oakley Playground before entering the road onto Paxton Ave. near the tennis fields. Continue to a right turn onto Marburg. Right on Wasson. Right onto Paxton and enter Playground outer trail again, past the Oakley Recreation Center and pick up inner loop trail around ball field to finish near left field.

Free parking is available near the Oakley Recreation Center in The Hyde Park Plaza located at 3882 Paxton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45209.

All 5k participants will be chip timed. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 overall male and female finishers. The top 3 overall awards will be based on gun time. All kids will receive an award.

Entry for the 5k run and walk is $25. Registration for the Kids' Fun Run is $10. All pre-registrants will receive a cotton t-shirt. Kids' Fun Run participants will also receive an award for participating.

All mail-in entries must be received by Monday, March 26th, 2012. Mail-in entries may be sent to the following address, with checks made payable to Transitions Global: Run for Shelter 5k, PO Box 58343, Cincinnati, OH 45258.

Online registration will close at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.

Late registration will be available at packet pick-up for $25 for the 5K and $10 for the Kids' Fun Run

Race-day registration is available on race day for $30 for the 5K and $10 for the Kids' Fun Run at the Oakley Recreation Center, beginning at 7:30 a.m. A t-shirt is included with pre-registration, but sizes/t-shirt availability may be limited on race day.

The Oakley Recreation Center is located behind the Hyde Park Plaza Shopping Center at 3882 Paxton Avenue (45208).

Get ready for some fun! Run for Shelter is more than just a road race. It's a family-friendly event, complete with carnival games that are sure to satisfy kids of all ages. Plus, the little ones can participate in the Kids' Fun Run.

[b]Kids' Fun Runs/Easter Egg Hunts
All Kids' Fun Runs and egg hunts will be divided by age group. Kids in each age group will run their race first, immediately followed by an egg hunt for their age group.

10:00 a.m.: Extreme Easter Egg Hunt for ages 7+
10:00 a.m.: 1/3 mile Fun Run, ages 5-8
10:10 a.m.: 50-yard dash, ages 2-3
10:15 a.m.: 100 yard dash, ages 4-5
10:20 Diaper Dash

Tickets for the carnival are $.50 each or $10 for 25.
